Mountaineers split curling doubleheader

red-curling-rockMohawk’s men’s and women’s curling teams took part in the inaugural Humber Men’s and Women’s Bonspiel at the Weston Curling Club on Jan. 18.

The men drew 7-7 with Niagara and lost 9-2 to host Humber.

Members of the Mohawk rink included skip Wes Steen, vice Cody Strong, second Luc Seguin and lead James Moser, who was named a bonspiel all-star.

The Mountaineer women defeated Niagara 7-3, but bowed 8-5 to Humber.

Mohawk’s Erin Walker and Sandy Toole alternated as skips in the event and Walker made the all-star team. Allison Vail threw second stones for the Mountaineers, while Nikki Steep was the lead.

Jenny Vittie spared for the Mohawk women.

The Mountaineers are tuning up for the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Curling Championships on Feb. 14-17 in London. Fanshawe Falcons will be the host team.
