Track and basketball competitors have claimed this week’s McMaster’s Pita Pit Athletes of the week.
Jeremy Walsh, a fourth-year runner set a personal best en route to a gold medal finish in the men’s 1,000m race at the Don Wright Invitational meet in London on Saturday (Jan. 20).
Walsh (2:31.02) led the event from start to finish as Marauders swept the podium, with teammates Eric Barry (2:32.99) and Sean Bowen (2:33.92) crossing the line in second and third position respectively.
Hailey Milligan, a fourth-year forward posted back-to-back double-doubles in the past week as the Marauders went 1-1 against the Windsor Lancers and Waterloo Warriors. Milligan had 11 points and 15 boards in McMaster’s 56-48 loss to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport No. 3-ranked Lancers, before leading the Marauders with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the team’s 70-54 demolition of the Warriors.
Her efforts on the glass have elevated Milligan to second among Ontario University Athletics players in both total rebounds (128) and rebounds per game (9.8).
