Brock Badger Nicole Rosenkranz has earned Ontario University Athletics Female Player of the Week honours.
Rosenkranz, a fourth-year Humanities major, led the No. 7 ranked Brock women’s basketball team to victories over Guelph and Laurier this past week. In two games, the Niagara Falls native averaged 23.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game while registering back-to-back double-doubles.
Against Guelph, she pulled down a season high 16 rebounds. In the victory over Laurier she managed another season high, sinking 27 points in 27 minutes of time on the floor. She currently ranks eighth in OUA scoring (15.4 PPG), fourth in OUA rebounds (8.6 RPG), fourth in OUA blocks (1.3 BPG) and sixth in OUA steals (2.5 SPG).
The male athlete of the week award goes to hockey player Ryan Daniels of the Laurier Golden Hawks.
The Pickering native had a spectacular week for the red-hot Wilfrid Laurier men’s team which had upset victories over nationally-ranked Western as well as Windsor.
On Thursday (Jan. 17) against the OUA’s top team, Daniels turned aside all 36 shots he faced as Laurier ended No. 2 Western’s 15-game winning streak with a 2-0 win.
He followed that up with a 43 save performance against the second place team in the OUA West division as the Hawks defeated the Lancers 2-1. He finished the weekend stopping 79 of 80 shots for a 0.988 SV% while posting a 0.50 GAA and has been crucial in the Hawks rise up the OUA West standings as they have won five of their last six games.
