Mustangs fail where others have failed before

vball_macpink-65The McMaster Marauders continue to be the puzzle that no Ontario University Athletics team can solve in men’s volleyball.

The Marauders posted their 14th straight win in conference play, sweeping the visiting Western Mustangs from London, 27-25, 25-23, 25-20, on Friday (Jan. 25) at the Burridge Gym. The Mustangs fall to 10-3 on the season, and continue to occupy third position in the standings.

Earlier on Friday, in women’s volleyball, the Marauders were 3-1 winners.

Dany Demyanenko led all scorers with 15 points in the win, hitting 13 kills on 18 attempts with only two errors, winning the Marauders’ Big Mac Player of the Game honours for his efforts. Stephen Maar had 14 points and nine kills, and Jori Mantha added 13 points and 11 kills on the night.

Outside hitter Garrett May paced the Mustangs with 16 points and 13 kills, but attempted 35 attacks altogether.

The Marauders return to conference play on Saturday (Jan. 26) when the Windsor Lancers visit McMaster.
