A volleyball player and a track team member are this week’s Pita Pit McMaster Athletes of the Week.
The fifth-year senior Shannon McRobert played a pivotal role in two Marauder women’s volleyball wins on a weekend dedicated to graduating veterans.
The middle scored 17.5 points in Friday’s (Jan.25) four-set victory over the Western Mustangs, converting 10 of her 15 hitting attempts and chipping in 5.5 total blocks and two aces. McRobert was a steadying force yet again the next day, contributing 11 points and 4.5 blocks as the Marauders swept the Windsor Lancers on Seniors’ Night.
Scott Hutchinson provided the highlight of the weekend for the Marauder track teams as McMaster competed at the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal on Friday and Saturday. The fourth-year senior shattered a school record at the 300m distance that he set in 2011, completing his race in 33.85 – more than a full second faster than his previous record of 35.17 – and finishing at the head of his section.
That time placed Hutchinson second among Canadian Interuniversity Sport runners at the 300m distance.
