Mohawk comes out swinging in badminton


BadmintonMohawk got off to a strong start in men’s singles play at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association West Regional Badminton Championships at Mohawk on Friday (Feb. 1).

Bert Micano won his three Pool A matches in straight sets over Conestoga, Fanshawe and St. Clair opponents. In Pool B Le Nguyen was 3-1 on opening day, defeating Conestoga, Redeemer and Fanshawe, but losing to St. Clair.

In women’s Pool A singles, Andreea Predoi was 0-4, losing to Humber, Seneca, Fanshawe and St. Clair. Eikcaj Navarro was 1-2, defeating Conestoga, but losing to Redeemer and St. Clair.

In men’s doubles, the Mohammed Nazimuddin and Kianoosh Moslemi tandem split four results, beating Redeemer and Conestoga, but losing to St. Clair and Humber.

In women’s doubles, Mohawk’s duo of Tallia Bezimer and Jennifer Wagenknecht was 1-3, downing Conestoga, but bowing to Humber, St. Clair and Redeemer.

And in mixed doubles, Mohawk’s Jazmine Hogeveen and Kien Tran were 1-3, topping Conestoga, but losing to Fanshawe, St. Clair and Humber.

Play concludes on Saturday at the Fennell Gymnasium.
