Fong, D’Angelo lead Marauders

Silver medal performances earned a squash player and a wrestler this week’s Pita Pit McMaster Athletes of the Week honours.

He posted wins over Waterloo’s Gerald Gayowsky (13-11, 11-7, 13-11), Toronto’s Shahan Khatchadourian (11-5, 11-4, 11-4), Brock’s Matthew Perri (11-2, 11-2, 11-3) and Alex Cormier of Queen’s (11-3, 14-12, 11-4). Fong’s only loss of the tournament came at the hands of the Western Mustangs, who dropped only a single point en route to their 30th-consecutive OUA title.

D_Angelo,_EricaErica D’Angelo was the standout on the women’s side as the Marauder wrestling teams competed at the Western Open in London on Saturday (Feb. 2).

The fourth-year veteran claimed a silver medal in the 55 kilogram weight class, in the Marauders’ final tune-up before the OUA wrestling championships set for Feb. 16 at Brock University.

D’Angelo’s effort was one of McMaster’s four podium finishes on Saturday.
