Mohawk continues to struggle in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association volleyball. On Thursday (Feb. 7) at Niagara College, the Mountaineer men and women were both swept by the Knights.
In men’s play, Mohawk lost its second straight match and third in four outings, falling 25-20, 27-25, 25-18 to Niagara. The Mountaineers slumped to 8-8. The Knights, on the other hand, romped to their eighth consecutive victory to improve to 13-3, moving into a first place tie with Redeemer in the West Region. Ironically, Niagara started it’s lengthy win streak on Dec. 4 at Mohawk, when they also swept three games.
Thursday, Brad Regier led Mohawk with nine kills and Phil Youngblut recorded four kills and four stuff blocks.
The Mohawk women, who had a very promising season going for themselves, have gone off the rails. Niagara beat them 26-24, 25-18, 25-11, handing the Mountaineers their sixth consecutive defeat. And it was an important result. While Niagara improved to 8-8, tied for fourth place in the West Region, Mohawk, now 6-10, missed a chance to move into a three-way tie for fifth spot.
Chi Chi Chuks-Mady had six kills and two blocks for the Mountaineers.
