Mac swimmers improve national ranking

A successful weekend at the Ontario University Athletics championships has propelled the McMaster swim teams forward in this week’s edition of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s Top Ten rankings.

The Marauders women’s and men’s teams – previously ranked ninth and tenth in the country respectively – both finished on the podium in Toronto after a meet in which 15 school records fell. McMaster’s men claimed silver as a team, finishing behind only the host Varsity Blues, while the women won a collective bronze.

Their efforts at the provincial level bumped both teams up to the No. 7 spot in CIS.

Meanwhile, McMaster’s men’s volleyball team, despite suffering its first loss of the season at the hands of the York Lions on Sunday (Feb. 10), retained its seeding as the No. 2 team in the country. The Marauders enjoy a bye through the quarter-final round of the OUA playoffs this week, and return to action when they host the Final Four tournament at the Burridge Gym, Feb. 22-23.

Also holding firm in the Top Ten were McMaster’s wrestling teams, with the men remaining No. 5 and the women anchored to the ninth seed. The grapplers travel to St. Catharines on Saturday (Feb. 16) to compete at the OUA Wrestling Championships hosted by Brock.
