Bulldogs end Marlies series on a winning note


bulldogsJoey Tenute and Gabriel Dumont were more than helpful for the Hamilton Bulldogs on Tuesday night (Feb. 12). The tandem had a trio of assists in leading the Bulldogs to a 3-2 win over arch rivals in the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies.

Nathan Beaulieu, aided by Tenute and Dumont, scored the winner with just under three minutes left in the game.

The Marlies opened the scoring at 18:09 of the opening frame on a goal by Will Acton who wristed a shot from the left circle past goaltender Robert Mayer.

Just past the midway mark of the sandwich frame, Hamilton knotted the count while on a power-play. Stefan Chaput chopped a rebound behind netminder Jussi Rynnas.

Toronto regained the lead at 16:02 of the period on a power-play tally by Joe Colborne. His goal snapped a run of 26-straight penalties killed by the Bulldogs.

Mike Blunden evened the score at two just over a minute later when he tipped a slapshot from Tenute.

A second man-advantage goal produced the game winner for Hamilton. Nathan Beaulieu’s point shot sailed past Rynnas who was being screened by Dumont.

Hamilton outshot Toronto by a count of 28-25. It was the final game of 12 meetings between the rivals this season with the Marlies getting the edge, 7-5.

The Bulldogs’ next game is against the Hershey Bears at Copps Coliseum on Friday (Feb. 15) at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on Cable 14.
