Erin Walker’s Mohawk women’s curling rink opened play at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Curling Championships with a resounding 9-2 win over Sault College at the St. Thomas Curling Club Thursday (Feb. 14).
The Mountaineers led only 3-2 after three ends, but scored two in the fourth end and four in the fifth to pull away.
However, Wesley Steen’s men’s foursome dropped their third straight decision, 8-2 to Algoma. The Thunderbirds scored singles in each of the first four ends, then counted three in the fifth to clinch the victory.
Earlier in the day, Steen’s crew lost 8-1 to Humber in the early morning draw. The Hawks scored three times in the first end and three times in the sixth to put the game away.
The Mohawk men next play Friday morning against Fanshawe, while the Mountaineer women take on Fleming. Both games are at 9 a.m.
