Hamilton Bulldogs proved to be better marksmen that the Hersey Bears on Friday night (Feb. 15) at the Copps corral.
After battling each other through three periods of regulation time and one overtime period, the two American Hockey League teams dueled it out from centre ice in a shootout. And the Bulldogs prevailed 3-2 in the one-on-one contest to claim a 3-2 victory before 4,287 fans.
Hamilton overcame a 2-1 first period deficit to force overtime with a powerplay goal in the third period after the teams played a scoreless second period.
Stefan Chaput, who gave Hamilton an opening goal lead, scored the shootout winner. Louis Leblanc, who scored the goal to tie the game for Hamilton, also connected in the shootout along with Gabriel Dumont.
Ryan Sloa had both Hersey’s goals in regulation with Hamilton native Peter LeBlanc picking up assists on both counters.
Bulldogs’ goalie Robert Mayer faced 36 shots while his counterpart, Philipp Grubauer was tested 28 times.
Hamilton is back in action Saturday (Feb. 16) when they welcome the Houston Aeros to Copps for a 7 p.m. game.
