Bronze rings slip off Mohawk fingers

red-curling-rockHost Fanshawe scored two in the second end, and three in each of the fourth and six ends to defeat Mohawk 8-2 and capture the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Curling Championship’s bronze medal at the St. Thomas Curling Club on Sunday (Feb. 17).

Earlier in the day, the Walker rink’s hopes of a provincial championship were dashed when they dropped an 8-2 semi-final decision to Confederation College of Thunder Bay. The Thunderhawks were ahead only 4-2 after four ends, but exploded for four points in the fifth to clinch the victory.

Members of the Mohawk rink included Erin Walker, Sandy Toole, Allison Vail, Nikki Steep and Jenny Vittie.

The Falcons lost their semi-final to Niagara 6-5. The Knights scored two in the eight end, then stole the winning point in an extra end for the victory and will meet Confederation for the gold medal.

Niagara scored four in an extra end and won the women’s crown, 9-5 over Confederation.

Fanshawe downed Confederation 7-3 for the men’s gold.

The mixed title went to Fanshawe, 6-5 in an extra end over Sault College.
