The Mohawk men’s basketball team has clinched a spot in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Championship at Seneca College, Feb. 28-March 2.
The Mountaineers upped their record to 15-3 with a 77-60 victory over Sault College on Saturday (Feb. 16) at the Fennell Gymnasium.
Alex Reis scored 21 points for Mohawk. Pat Iavarone had 13 points, Xzennis Brereton scored 12 and Taylor Dowhaniuk had nine points,11 rebounds and one blocked shot.
“It’s nice to accomplish one of our goals which was to get the bye to the OCAAs,” said Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker. “Now we hope to continue our run and good play going into the championships.”
The Mountaineers face Algoma University Sunday afternoon (Feb. 17) at 3 p.m. at the Fennell gym. Mohawk is two points behind Sheridan in the West Region and the Bruins, 16-2, beat Lambton 97-48 Saturday and play St. Clair Sunday.
