The Mohawk men’s volleyball team, which finished sixth in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s West Region, swept the third place team in the East, George Brown, 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 in Toronto on Saturday (Feb. 16) and earned a berth in the provincial championship.
Mohawk will meet cross-city rival, Redeemer Royals from Ancaster at Sheridan on Feb. 21.
Mo Sulaiman led the Mountaineers with 15 kills, one stuff block and two digs. Eric Danecke had nine kills and one block and Bart Jedrzejewski contributed 15 digs.
Theodore Gordon recorded six kills and two blocks for the Huskies and Stephen Duong had seven kills.
Mohawk head coach Matthew Schnarr said his team came to play and he’s excited to see what the OCAA championship will bring versus Redeemer in the opener at 6 p.m. Thursday. Mohawk was 9-9 in the regular season and Redeemer was 14-4. But the Mountaineers scored two, five-set victories over the Royals in the regular campaign.
