The Mohawk women’s team romped to its fourth straight Ontario Colleges Athletic Association basketball win with a 73-29 win over Sault College on Saturday (Feb. 16).
Lacey Wolters had 16 points and nine rebounds, Cynthia Mosca scored 10 points and had six rebounds and Carissa Browne added 10 points as well.
“It was a great win for us,” said Mohawk head coach Kevin Duffy, “because not only did it put us in fourth place, but it clinched our first playoff berth in several years, which was goal number one when we started the season.” Duffy noted, “The league is so close and so tough, the last four games have all been must-win playoff type games for us and playing with this type of pressure will serve us well in the future.” Mohawk was able to roll its bench and get many players time on the floor and touches at the offensive end.
The Mountaineers, with a record of 9-7, entertain Algoma Sunday. The Thunderbirds, from Sault Ste. Marie, are flying high at 14-2.
