Duo wrestle down weekly honours

The following student-athletes have been named Pioneer Energy Ontario University Athletics Athletes of the Week for the period ending Feb. 17.

MALE: Jason Buckle, McMaster Marauders, Wrestling
Buckle (Hamilton) topped the 61kg weight class to provide one of the McMaster men’s two gold medals at the OUA Wrestling Championships, hosted by Brock University on Saturday (Feb. 16). For his efforts, the reigning Canadian Interuniversity Sport Rookie of the Year was named the OUA’s Outstanding Male Wrestler for 2012-13. The second-year athlete’s score helped the Marauders finish second as a team at the OUA meet, with their combined tally of 67 points falling just six short of the winning Western Mustangs.

Buckle was also named the McMaster male athlete of the week.

FEMALE: Rebecca Levitt, Brock Badgers, Wrestling
Fourth-year wrestler Levitt helped lead the Brock women’s wrestling team to their sixth straight OUA title and 13th in school history. At 72kg, the Toronto native posted a perfect 3-0 record while outscoring her opponents 32-1. Levitt posted victories over Laurentian’s Samantha Demers (6-0, 6-0), Toronto’s Grace Bannerman (7-0, 7-0) and Lakehead’s Kelsey Dayler in the gold medal match (4-1, 2-0).
