OTTAWA – Waterdown’s Maegan Chant and 2012 Olympian team member Victoria Moors of Cambridge, are set to compete on Saturday (March 2) at the prestigious American Cup gymnastics meet in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Chant, a last minute roster addition after the withdrawal of a Japanese gymnast, and Moors, 16, are expected to be right in the mix in one of the most wide open women’s fields in recent years at the American Cup, an all around only event highlighted by former all around world champion Vanessa Ferrari of Italy.
Moors, 16, who helped the Canadian women’s team to a best-ever fifth-place finish last August at the London Olympics, has been working on new moves in her floor and uneven bars routines since the Games, and Chant, 15, is coming off a strong performance last weekend at the Gymnastics Legends meet in Los Angeles where she won the senior all around title.
“It’s definitely one of my favourite competitions,” says Moors, who finished fourth last year in her first appearance at the American Cup. “I’m really excited to be back again this year.”
Rounding out the women’s field are Simone Biles and Katelyn Ohashi of the United States, 2012 Olympian Elizabeth Seitz of Germany, Gabrielle Jupp of Great Britain and Asuka Teramoto of Japan.
There are no Canadians in the men’s event.
