A.J. Manguerra was the top scorer for Newman with 14 points.
On Tuesday, Newman took its quarter-final playoff 45-38 over St. Marguerite d’Youville before dropping a 51-42 semifinal decision to top-seeded Toronto St. Michael’s. St. Michael’s went on to win the gold medal, 47-38 over Father Henry Carr.
Coach Andrew Sergi’s Newman squad went undefeated in league play in 2012-13. They also topped the ACMT Jaguars 49-38 for the Hamilton-Wentworth title. In the GHAC semifinal, the Cardinals breezed past Oakville Loyola, 69-42. Newman then opened play at the OFSAA tournament with a pair of one sided victories — 57-20 over Ursuline and 73-52 over Brother Andre.
