Netminder Dustin Tokarski turned in his second straight shutout and fifth of the American Hockey League season to back stop the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 2-0 whitewash of the visiting Abbotsford Heat on Tuesday (March 5).
Tokarski stopped all 27 shots he faced at Copps Coliseum.
After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs broke the ice on a tally by Joey Tenute at 18:48 of the second frame. Tenute snapped a shot from the slot and it sailed over the shoulder of Abbotsford goaltender Leland Irving.
Louis Leblanc added an empty netter on the power play at 19:26 of the final stanza to clinch the victory for the ’Dogs.
The Heat outshot the Bulldogs 27-23.
The ‘Dogs have won eight of their last 11 games and now improve to 14-0 when leading after two periods of play. Tokarski has stopped 166 of 173 shots in his six games as a Bulldog for a save percentage of .960 as well as sporting a goals against average of 1.18 in those six games. He has not surrendered a goal in 147 minutes and 19 seconds.
