The recent Canadian Junior and Senior Open Wrestling Championships, held in Fredericton, New Brunswick, saw three McMaster grapplers return home with medals as well as booking spots on the Canadian team that will compete at the Pan American Championships this summer.
Jason Buckle and Nicole Roach took silver in their respective weight classes and were named to the Canadian Junior Pan Am team, while Ahmed Shamiya finished third in his class and will be an alternate on Team Canada for the Pan Am Games.

McMaster Coach Nick Cipriano said all three Marauders had great meets and he saved some special praise for Buckle.
“Jason had the tournament of his life, defeating three much older wrestlers to finish in second. It was a terrific performance and it means that he (Buckle) will also be an alternate on Canada’s team for the World Championships.”
Also facing older competitors, 18-year old Nicole Roach had some high expectations after finishing second as a juvenile last year.
“I made the World team in Grade 10 and the Pan Am team in Grade 11, so this is my third time wrestling as a member of Team Canada,” said the first-year Marauder from Coldwater, Ontario. “It is always an incredible thrill to compete at the international level. My wrestling has drastically improved since coming to McMaster and I look forward to training for the Pan Am Games.”
The Pan American Wrestling Championships will be held in Santiago, Chile from July 10 to 15.
