Hamilton Catholic capture gold at All-Star Classic

Matt Brown of the St. Thomas More Knights scored 12 points to lead Hamilton Catholic to the championship of the 24th annual Hamilton Spectator All-Star Classic boys’ high school basketball tournament.

In an all-Hamilton final, Catholic topped Public, 76-58.

It was the first gold medal for Hamilton Catholic since its three-peat run ended in 2009. For the last three years, Halton ended up on top.

James Miles of Westmount and Nick Burke of MacNab each netted 11 points for Public.

The consolation final went to Halton, 82-66 over Brant/Norfolk. Filip Vujadinovic of Burlington Nelson tossed in13 points for the winners, while Josh Johnson of Simcoe Holy Trinity answered with 15 for Brant/Norfolk.

The slam dunk champion was Emmanuel Mukana of the Catholic league runner up ACMT Jaguars. The three-point shooting contest went to Jordan Scott of Burlington Notre Dame who sank 19 in one minute.

The two-day tournament was held at Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School.
