MVC finishes with one-two punch at tourney

mvcThe Mountain Volleyball Club teams won gold and silver medals at the 12-team 13-Under Girls Bugarski Cup Trillium Zone A at Stratford on Saturday (April 6). The MVC 13U Black team played against sister team MVC 13U Maroon in the gold medal final, winning 25-17, 25-13.

The 13U Black team placed first in its pool defeating the Sarnia Twin Bridges Thunder, 25-8, 25-3, and the London Volleyball Club Fury, 25-8, 25-6. In the quarter-finals 13U Black breezed past the Brantford Tornadoes, 25-6, 25-8, and stung the Stratford Stingers, 25-8, 25-17, in the semis.

The MVC 13U Maroon team placed second in its pool by defeating the Predators Purple, 25-10, 25-15, and losing to the Stratford Stingers, 20-25, 25-19, 12-15. The Maroon team bounced back, however, and defeated the Guelph Grizzlies, 25-13, 25-17, the Scorpions White, 25-21, 25-20, and the London Volleyball Club Fury Inferno, 25-20, 25-18 in the semi-finals.

The Black team is coached by Peter Stratford of Burlington and Kristin Kawamoto and Kaitlyn Mattiozzi of Hamilton. Team athletes include: Elisa Mejia of Stoney Creek; Grace Heath, Khloe Mattiozzi, Felicia Malavolta, and Taylor Morrison, all of Hamilton; Zofia Olejarz and Megan Richer of Dundas; Megan Grosso of Carlisle; and Christina Stratford of Burlington.

The Maroon team is coached by Jerry Olejarz of Dundas. Athletes include Brianna Quijano, Kaitlin Johnny, Ella Carter, and Sarah Reilly of Hamilton; Jamie Mataseje, Paige Entwistle, and Jessica Holmes from Ancaster; Meaghan Boatsmith and Victoria Fisher of Dundas; Shaelyn Francis of Binbrook; and Emily Keeting from Milton.
