Chedoke Express rides to provincial title

The Novice Chedoke Express capped an undefeated season by claiming the Ontario Alliance Select championship in a tournament windup last weekend (April 13) in Fort Erie. The Express earned a bye to the semi-finals with wins over the Brantford 99ers, Waterloo Wolves, and Parkdale Huskies.

Beating the 99ers, 6-4, Val Johnston had a pair of goals with singles coming from Antonino Pugliese, Matteo Reda, Sandro Cali and Dylan Houlachan.

Quinn Levinson had two goals in the Express’s 4-1 victory over Waterloo. Pugliese and Reda completed the scoring.

A four-goal effort from Pugliese sparked a 16-0 rout of Parkdale. Levinson chipped in three more with Nathan Channer contributing two. Singles came from Evan Deligeorgis, Thomas Saker, Cali, William Sidorkewicz, Nicolas Palka, Houlachan, and Reda.

Those preliminary round wins set up an all-Hamilton battle with the Dofasco Steelhawks. The Express won that affair, 10-3, to advance to the final against their toughest opponents all year – the Burlington Bulldogs. In beating the Steelhawks Pugliese and Quinn Levinson each had three goals with Channer scoring twice and Houlachan and Johnston collecting one goal apiece.

Scoring for Dofasco were Noah Frankovich, Noah Clarke, and Gianluca Mattina.

Burlington and Chedoke had played each other earlier in the year at the Brantford Tournament of Friends and had tied an earlier exhibition game. And on this day, the Express rolled right along, blanking the Bulldogs, 6-0. Levinson and Houlachan each had a pair of goals with Pugliese and Sidorkewicz completing the scoring.

Leading up to the championship tourney, the Express compiled a record of 27 wins and two ties. In addition to the Alliance Select event, Chedoke claimed titles to the Brantford Tournament of Friends, the Chedoke Christmas Tournament, and the West Mall Easter Tournament.
