A two-goal effort by Phillipe Lefebvre and a three-assist night from Nathan Beaulieu lifted the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 4-1 American Hockey League win over the St. John’s IceCaps on Friday (April 19).
Playing before 5,523 onlookers at Copps Coliseum, the Bulldogs also got goals from Greg Pateryn and Louis Leblanc.
After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs scored twice in just over two minutes in the second period. Lefebvre, who bookended the scoring, got his first at 5:27 followed by LeBlanc’s shorthanded tally. Beaulieu assisted on both goals, making his return to the Bulldogs from the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday very timely.
Pateryn extended the lead to three goals with a power play score before the period ended.
St. John’s lone marker came seven minutes into the final period when Josh Lunden scored. Lefebvre finalized the scoring with an empty net goal.
Hamilton was outshot by St. John’s with Icecaps’ goalie Juho Olkinuora stopping 22 of 25 shots while Jacob Gervais-Chouinard turned aside 30 of 31 shots.
The Bulldogs’ next game is against the Americans in Rochester on Saturday (April 20) at 7:05 p.m.
