Bulldogs end season with little bite


bulldogsWhat started out as a promising weekend for the victorious Bulldogs on Friday night fizzled into a pair of losses on Saturday and Sunday to end Hamilton’s 2012-13 American Hockey League season.

After edging the St. John’s Icecaps, 2-1, on Friday, the Bulldogs travelled to Rochester where the Americans handed them a 5-1 setback on Saturday (April 20) and added insult to injury when they beat the host Bulldogs 4-1 on Sunday in front of 6,546 fans at Copps Coliseum.

Hamilton ended the campaign dead last in the 30-team league with a record of 29 wins, 41 losses, 1 overtime loss, and five shoot-out defeats for 64 points.

In the season finale, Matt Ellis scored the game-winner and Matt Hackett stopped 30 of 31 shots for the Americans.

Also scoring for the Amerks were Maxime Legault, Phil Varone, and Frederick Roy.

Hamilton’s goal was scored by Frederic St. Denis.

The Americans outshot the Bulldogs 37-31.

In Rochester on Saturday, the Americans defeated the Bulldogs 5-1. Varone and Luke Adam both notched a goal and added two assists for the Amerks.

Also scoring for the hosts were Daniel Catenacci, Legault, and Evan Rankin.

Hamilton’s lone marker came from Olivier Archambault, who scored his first professional goal after tapping in his own rebound.
