The rookie Marauder enjoyed a decorated season this year, being honoured with Ontario University Athletics and Canadian Interuniversity Sport rookie of the year awards in addition to his selection as an OUA First-Team All Star, OUA and CIS all-rookie teams, and a CIS Second-Team All Canadian.
Demyanenko grew into a starting role as the Marauders advanced to the CIS final and claimed a program-best silver medal on the national stage.
The OVA award recognizes Demyaneko’s continued involvement with the Ontario provincial program and the national junior setup. The middle hitter led Team Ontario to victory at the National Team Challenge Cup in 2012, before serving as a member of the Canadian Junior National Team that advanced to a regional final (NORCECA) and will compete at the World Junior Championships in Turkey in August.
Marauder head coach Dave Preston lauded Demyanenko not only for his on-court success, but for his character as well.
“Although his on-court successes are remarkable, what continues to impress even more is his outstanding character and his ability to relate, communicate and connect with his teammates and coaches,” said Preston. “Danny is a tremendous ambassador for his sport, his school and his country.”
