Harb, Fisher one step closer


2013jrnatsblack_1526_largeTwo home-town players advanced to Friday’s (April 26) semi-finals at the Canadian Junior Racquetball Championships at Burlington’s Cedar Springs Health and Racquet Club.

In Boys Singles 18-and-Under, Sami Harb takes on Michael Leduc of Valleyfield, Que. A win for Harb will put him against last year’s champion, Coby Iwaasa of Lethbridge, Alta., who defeated Leduc on Thursday, 15-4, 15-4. Iwaasa is also in the semis in the boys U16 division.

In girls play, Annie Fisher finds herself in two semi-finals. Despite losing to Alexis Iwaasa (Lethbridge) in 14U Singles, 15-4, 15-7, in pool play, she advanced to the layoffs and will meet Josephine Choi. Iwaasa will play Alexandra Murray (Brandon, Man.).

In the 16U division, Fisher plays McKenzie Brayley of Calgary. Fisher was a 15-7, 15-10 winner over Milana Paddock of Brandon on Thursday.

In other 16U matches, Callie Hunter of Burlington fell to Jewel Sauve of L’assomption, Que., 15-6, 15-9.

Winners of the semi-finals in Boy’s and Girl’s U14, U16, and U18 will qualify for the Canadian Junior National Team that will compete at the 2013 World Junior Racquetball Championships in Sucre, Bolivia in October.
