For the first time in more than 10 years, the Ontario Minor Field Lacrosse League returned to the Niagara region.
During the past two weekends, the OMFLL used the new turf fields in St. Catharines and Welland for league play that showcased 78 teams (over 900 players) from across Southwestern Ontario. The games at Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines and at the Youngs Sportsplex in Welland began early in the morning and continued until the evening hours on both days of the back-to-back weekends.
The weather was incredibly chilly for players and spectators the first weekend (1C), but much more seasonal (15C) during the second weekend of games.
Some of the cities and lacrosse clubs competing included Hamilton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Six Nations, Guelph, Brampton, Orangeville, Centre Wellington, Caledon, Halton Hills, and Kitchener-Waterloo. St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake also had teams playing during the two weekends.
There were three divisions competing in Niagara – 11-Under, 13-Under, and 15-Under Boys teams – with other divisions playing in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
