The best baseball players in Ontario University Athletics will be on display at the Rogers Centre on Sunday (May 5) as the 2012 champion Toronto Varsity Blues take on the conference all-stars in the seventh annual OUA Baseball All-Star Showcase.
Two members of the McMaster Marauders will be included in the OUA All-Star Team – right-handed pitcher Carlos Cabrero and outfielder Paul Saville.
Saville was included in the year-end OUA All-Star team in 2012, as the centre fielder led the Marauders with a batting average of .351 and nine runs-batted-in 11 appearances. For his part, Cabrero made seven starts in 2012, and amasssed 21 strikeouts en route to 2-4 record.
The game will take place following the Toronto Blue Jays game against the Seattle Mariners, which begins at 1:07 p.m. Fans can enter Rogers Centre through Gate 8 free of charge following the Blue Jays game (approximately 5:00 p.m.), or purchase tickets to both by visiting bluejays.com.
The Varsity Blues claimed their second straight OUA championship with a victory over the Brock Badgers this past October. The Blues squeaked into the playoffs with an 11-10 regular season record, before knocking off the top-seeded Brock Badgers and second-seeded Guelph Gyphons to reach the finals.
Last year, Toronto got off to a great start, scoring six runs in the first inning and defeated the all-star team 8-2. The all-star team holds a 2-3-1 record with the inaugural game in 2007 ending in a tie.
