McMaster Marauder forward and Ontario University Athletics’ West All-Star Mark Reilly scored twice for Team West, en route to an eventual 4-3 win in the men’s 2013 OUA Soccer Showcase match at the OSA Centre in Vaughan.
Marauders were front and centre over the weekend, as midfielder Emma Mangialardi scored the lone goal and goalkeeper Brittney Duffey picked up the clean sheet as the women’s West Team blanked the East 1-0 in their showcase game.
Team West opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of the men’s match, when Guelph striker Jared Agyemang (Brampton) capitalized on a Team East miscommunication slotted the ball into the open net.
Team East answered in the 55th minute when Toronto Varsity Blues midfielder Ezequiel Lubocki (Winnipeg) made his way up the field on a series of give and go’s before striking the ball past McMaster goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo (Hamilton).
Nearly 20 minutes of hard fought, back and forth action continued until Reilly (Hamilton) tapped the ball into the net for a 2-1 West lead.
Lubocki nearly notched another goal for East moments later when he got the ball on the end of a cross from Ryerson’s Alex Braletic (Thornhill) but his powerful volley soared just wide of the net. Relentless in their attack, the East finally knotted the score on a goal from Braletic in the 78th minute.
Not to be outdone, Reilly charged up the field, beating two defenders and then the goalkeeper to make the score 3-2 on an impressive solo effort.
With only minutes to play, Ryerson’s Milos Scepanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) took advantage of a flat East defensive line, and flicked it over a helpless Cavalluzzo, tying the score at three goals apiece.
It appeared the game would remain a draw until Pena found his mark in the 87th minute.
