Canada’s first flat-track derby league returns to action for its eighth full season on Saturday (May 11).
The Hammer City Eh! Team and the Harlots will square off against squads from the Tri-City Roller Girls of Kitchener.
In the first bout, the Harlots will figure out Plan B, and in the second, the chartered Eh! Team will tackle the Tri-City Thunder in a Women’s Flat Track Derby Association sanctioned bout. The Hammer City Roller Girls have been training hard in preparation for the season opener.
But not all the action will be on the track.
Fans can pie a skater. Yes, you can hit your favourite (or not-so-favourite) derby girl. Each vote only costs a loonie, and if your skater gets the most votes, you could be the one throwing the pie.
Kids under 12 get free admission to the matches. And there’s an activity table just for them.
After the contest, there is a free party at Club Absinthe, 38 King William Street. Fans can meet their favourite skater, maybe even the one you just pied.
The action takes place at the Dave Andreychuk (Mountain) Arena, 25 Hester Street in Hamilton. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the Harlots hitting the track an hour later and the Eh! Team skating at 8 p.m.
