Hodgson is Women’s Champion of Champions

gaoJackson’s Point, ON – Julia Hodgson of Unionville topped the field to earn the Ontario Women’s Champion of Champions title at The Briars Golf Club in Jackson’s Point.

Hodgson, who represents York Downs Golf and Country Club, finished at 71 to earn the victory by three strokes over the field of club champions from across Ontario. The recent graduate of the University of Memphis and member of the Lady Tigers women’ golf team carded four birdies against four bogeys to close out the tournament at even par. Hodgson is a two-time Ontario Women’s Match Play runner-up (2011, 2012) and her win on Tuesday (May 28) marks her first GAO tournament title.

Second place went to Kawartha Golf and Country Club female club champion Katlyn Elliott of Peterborough. The Penn State University women’s golf team member carded a three over par 73 to pick up the silver medal.

Islington Golf Club’s Marion Reid of Etobicoke finished in third place, six strokes back at 77. Three golfers finished tied for fourth; Chatham’s Mackenzie Butzer of Maple City Country Club, Brampton Golf Club’s Sandy Byckowski, and Station Creek Golf Club member Jennifer Mound of Unionville. All three golfers came in at 78, seven over par.

The best finish from the Golden Horseshoe area included two golfers tied for seventh. Ancaster’s Jennifer Lochhead of the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, and Chris Critelli of the St. Catharines G&CC, each shot eight over 79s. Tied for 10th were Burlington’s Michaela DiMarcantonio of Millcroft GC, and Welland’s Stefani Markovich Welland, of Lookout Point with 81s.

The Ontario Women’s Champion of Champions event is contested annually and features female club champions from Golf Association of Ontario member clubs across the province.
