Cadets Narain, Cyrus suit up for Canada

CanBasketball_CorpTwo area players have made the roster of Canada Basketball’s Cadet Team which will represent the nation at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Men in Maldonado, Uruguay.

Nolan Narain is a 6-9 centre from Hamilton, and Brandon Cyrus is a 6-4 forward from Oakville.

Head coach Dave DeAveiro sees strong potential in his 12-member squad as it prepares to play in hopes of qualifying for the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men.

“We’ve assembled a talented team that can play well on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. It will be a competitive tournament with some very good teams, but this is a driven group that plays with passion and skill.”

The Cadet Men’s National Team will match-up against Chile, Puerto Rico and host nation Uruguay in group B action. Team Canada opens the tournament as the home team against Puerto Rico on Tuesday, June 11. The next day Canada plays Chile, and then Uruguay on Thursday.
