Hamilton high school Sevens Rugby attracts 29 teams

The Bishop Tonnos Senior A division boys pulled an upset, taking the gold medal from Cathedral in the recent Seven-A-Side Rugby high school tournament.

Top-seeded Cathedral went through round-robin play undefeated but came short against Tonnos, losing 22-12.

The Tonnos junior girls also won gold while the Cathedral junior boys were first in their division.

Westdale surprised MacNab in the Senior Boys B division to take gold, while Sherwood took Bronze.

MacNab took gold in the Senior Girls defeating St. Mary, 15-5, in the final.

Twenty-nine teams from 11 area high schools played 61 games of Olympic format Seven-A-Side Rugby at Mohawk Sports Park in a tournament co-sponsored by the Hamilton Hornets Rugby Football Club. There were approx 350 rugby players in five divisions with games spread over three fields in the one-day tournament.

This was the fourth annual Seven’s tournament.
