Hamilton athletes sought for 2013 CANUSA Games


CanusaGamesHamilton is looking for athletes for this year’s version of the CANUSA Games, an annual competition between our city and Flint, Michigan.

The 56th edition of the games will take place on the Aug. 9-11 weekend in Hamilton. The competitions, North America’s longest running international games, alternate between the two cities.

A number of practices and tryouts are scheduled for the next couple of weeks, including:

Thursday, July 4 – Flag Football – 17 & under Boys, 7 p.m., at Mapledene Park.

Sunday, July 7 – Boys Baseball (12U, 14U,16U,18U), 6 p.m., at Mahoney Park.

Sunday, July 7 – Golf – Boys and girls (11-17) and adult men over 18 with registered handicap below 10. Must book tee time with Anthony O’Grady to tryout at Chedoke Golf Course (Martin Course).

Sunday, July 7 – Soccer, boys, 10-17 – 1 p.m., Mohawk Sports Park Fields 5 and 6. Girls, 10-17, 1 p.m., at Mohawk Sports Park Fields 1 and 2

Sundays, July 7, 14, 21, 28 – Girls softball, 16 and Under, – 8:30 a.m., at Scott Park; 18 and Under, 9 a.m., at Gage Park diamonds.

Mondays, July 8, 15, 22, 29 – Bowling, 6 p.m., Skyway Lanes.

Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23, 30 – Track and Field, ages 9-17, 6 p.m., Mohawk Sports Park.

Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, 31 – Girls basketball, 6-7:15 p.m., U10/Grade 5 (2002), U11/Grade 6 (2001), U12/Grade 7 (2000).

7:15 p.m.- 8:30 p.m., U13/Grade 8 (1999), U14/Grade 9 (1998).

8:30 p.m.- 9:45 p.m., U 15/Gr10 (1997), U16/Gr11/12 (1996/95)

Thursdays – July 11, 18, 25, Aug. 1 – Track and Field, ages 9-17, 6 p.m., Mohawk Sports Park

Saturday, July 27 – Gymnastics, 10 a.m.-noon, Burlington Gymnastics Club
