Marauder’s Maddy McDonald makes Medellin

McDonald,_MadelineA trip to the Junior Pan Am Games was at stake for Marauder Maddy McDonald at the recent Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships, and she responded by taking the silver medal in the 3,000-metre race to book her ticket to Medellin, Columbia.

A native of Toronto, McDonald ran a personal best time of 9:32.59 in the event and that qualified her for the Canadian junior national team that will compete at the Junior Pan American Games, Aug. 23-25. Her time at the Junior Nationals shattered her previous best time in that event by almost nine-seconds.

After completing a sensational debut season in Maroon, her upcoming trip to Columbia will be McDonald’s second international competition this year, as she competed at the World Junior Cross Country Championship in Poland last March, where she finished 47th overall and helped Canada to a ninth-place finish in the overall team standings.
