Ontario’s golden girls too much for Quebec

baseball2Sparked by Port Dover’s Hailey Boyd, Ontario claimed Gold at the 16-Under Bantam Girls Invitational Baseball Tournament on Sunday (Aug. 25) in Bedford, N.S.

Going into the final. everyone knew that in order for Ontario to win, they would need to shut down Québec’s stifling offense. And that’s exactly what Boyd and Jenna Hillman (Tecumseh, ON) did. Boyd allowed only two hits in five and one-third innings while Tillman gave up only one to record the final four outs.

Hillman was a rock for Ontario all tournament long, but nowhere more so than at the plate where she record 13 hits and 14 runs-batted-in over seven games. In the final, finished with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.

It was sweet victory for Ontario as they avenged last year’s loss in the final to Québec. Sunday’s defeat was Quebec’s only setback at the tournament.

Ontario made a sweep of the Bantam division with the 15U boys’ team claiming their division with an 8-1 rout of British Columbia. The victory marked a repeat performance from 2012 for Ontario, and they will head into 2014 looking for a three-peat as champions.
