The Ancaster Avalanche look to improve their 4-2 pre-season record as the team heads into the 2013-14 Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League season with back-to-back games against the Guelph Hurricanes Thursday (Aug. 29) and the next night.
Thursday’s game at the Morgan Firestone Arena starts at 7:30 p.m. The two clubs will play the re-match in Guelph.
The final two exhibition games will set the stage for the Avs Golden Horseshoe Conference home opener against the Buffalo Blades in Ancaster on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Several promotions will be announced in the days leading up to the game, which will mark the return of Junior B hockey to Ancaster following a 20-year absence.
The Avalanche will be host to each of the other eight teams in the conference three times throughout the 24-game home schedule before playoffs start leading to Captain James T. Sutherland Cup. This year the conference consists of the Blades, Caledonia Pro Fit Corvairs, Fort Erie Meteors, Niagara Falls Canucks, Port Colborne Pirates, St. Catharines Falcons, Thorold Blackhawks, the Welland Junior Canadians, and Ancaster.
Ancaster lost its opening game of the Port Colborne Junior Hockey Tournament last weekend, 4-0, to Buffalo, and then fell 4-2 to host Port Colborne. The Avs, however, rallied to defeat Brampton 4-3.
