Budds BMW (Hamilton) won the local 2013 Minor Ball Cal Ripken Baseball Championship in Binbrook this past Sunday (Aug 25).

Budds defeated defending champions, Rescom Coatings Inc., in the finale of the day-long city championship at the Glanbrook Sports Complex. Teams from the Binbrook and the East Hamilton / Stoney Creek leagues participated in the tournament.
Jonas Mallet and Justin Day received most valuable player awards while Albertino Lore and Tansley Kell went home with awards for sportsmanship.
At Edwards Memorial Park in Woodburn, the Cardinals were crowned Binbrook Rookie Ball champions. As part of the end of the season tournament on Super Sunday, Brent Cranston and Liam Wells won the boys’ Grand Slam Championship and Golden Glove awards respectively. Taylor Smith and Katie Zolis won the awards for the girls.
Cal Ripken Baseball (affiliated with Babe Ruth League Inc.) is the fastest growing youth baseball program in North America for players ages 4-12 in several different divisions. The Hamilton area Cal Ripken Baseball leagues are part of the Western New York division.
More than 400 youths ages 4-12 played this past season in Cal Ripken T-Ball, Rookie and Minor divisions in Binbrook (http://www.binbrookbaseball.ca/) , East Hamilton / Stoney Creek (http://battlefieldbaseball.baberuthonline.com/) and downtown Hamilton (http://freeteams.net/NHB/).
