“Any team that wants to win an Allan Cup (Trophy) has to have a great leader, and Christie has proven that he fits the bill perfectly since he joined the Club in 2006-07,” said McCoys president and general manager Don Robertson.
“I just can’t wait for the season to get started,” said Christie. “We have played in four Allan Cup Tournaments since I’ve been here, but this one will be special because we are playing it at home.
“I know that everyone is making a huge commitment both on and off the ice this season as we host this event. It will be another exciting year for Dundas, and we are hoping to keep the Allan Cup in town this time when the tournament comes around in April.”
Christie is second on the McCoys’ all-time points list for regular season and playoff scoring to all-time leader Mark Jooris. Jooris tops the team list with 473 points to Christie’s 230 in regular play while in playoff action they are one-two as well – Jooris 167, Christie 126). In goals, Mark has potted 134 to Ryan’s 103, however, Christie leads the way in the playoffs with 61 goals. Jooris leads in regular season and playoff assists with 339 and 119. Christie is second in regular season play with 127 assists and third in the post-season with 65 assists.
“Ryan is the perfect player at this level. He loves playing, and out-works almost everyone on the ice on every shift. The fact that he played in the National Hockey League (Dallas Stars, Calgary Flames) is a bonus for us and our fans.”
“He really wants to carry the Allan Cup Trophy around the JL Grightmire Arena as much as anyone and we know that desire will rub off on everyone all year. Our plan is to surround Stix (Christie) with the players who will help him make that happen,” said Robertson. “What more can you expect from a player who is always helpful with player recruitment, and the selling of Dundas and the Real McCoys?”
In addition to Christie’s signing, McCoys’ president and general manager Don Robertson announced the start of the McCoys season ticket drive. Season tickets for the 2013-14 campaign are $125 for a season flex pack, or $12 per person at the door.
