Fifth-year striker Erica Bain’s (Niagara Falls) four goal performance this past week has earned her Pioneer Energy Ontario University Athletics Female Athlete of the week.
Bain’s output carried the Guelph Gryphons to a 3-0 week which included two shutouts. The science major scored the game winning goal on Wednesday to lead the Gryphons 1-0 over the UOIT Ridgebacks. Bain followed up that performance with two goals in Guelph’s 3-0 victory over the York Lions on Saturday.
She capped the week with a goal on Sunday against Waterloo. Bain is now tied atop the OUA in scoring with four goals in four games played.
On the men’s side, quarterback Will Finch of the Western Mustangs was the winner.
The second-year quarterback directed the Mustangs to a lop-sided 58-15 win over McMaster Marauders on Saturday. In completing 26 of 35 tosses, the Burlington native threw for 449 yards and five touchdowns. This season after three games, the social science major has thrown for over 300 yards in each of the Mustangs first three games this season and more than 400 in his last two outings.
Finch was also named OUA offensive football player of the week.
