Second-year quarterback Will Finch had an outstanding day leading the Mustangs to their 58-15 win over McMaster to take the Offensive Player of the week award. The Burlington native threw for 449 yards and five touchdowns while completing 26 of 35 passes (74.2%).
Saturday’s win marked the second consecutive game that Finch threw for over 400 yards. The social science major has thrown for over 300 yards in each of the No. 4 Mustangs first three games this season.
And while Finch was surgically dissecting the Marauders, linebacker Pawel Kruba was stitching up the running lanes. Kruba led all players with a game-high nine tackles and recorded two interceptions in the dominant win that earned him defensive honours this week. The fifth-year linebacker from Windsor, Ont. was a key factor in handing No. 6 McMaster its first home loss since Sept. 10, 2011.
Special teams recognition goes to Lirim Hajrullahu.
The Mustangs kicker had a stellar game against the Marauders racking up 22 of Western’s 58 points. The St. Catharines native had his best game of the early season, going 5-6 on field goals, nailing a 42-yarder while adding six extra points and a single. Hajrullahu has eight field goals this season and 63 for his career.
