Two soccer players have captured this week’s McMaster Marauders Pita Pit Athletes of Week honours.

McMaster’s offence caught fire as a whole over the course of the weekend, but no one player encapsulated its success quite like third-year midfielder Nathaniel Morris.

With the Marauders and Brock Badgers deadlocked at a goal apiece on Sunday (Sept. 8), the Mississauga native took matters into his own hands, scoring two goals in the span of two minutes (55th and 57th) to propel McMaster to its second consecutive win in Ontario University Athletics men’s soccer play.

Cristina Abbatangelo, the Marauders first-year goalkeeper from Maple, ON, enjoyed a successful road trip on the pitch, playing an integral part as McMaster took four points from two matches.

She began the weekend with a three-save clean sheet in Waterloo, as the Marauders defeated the Warriors, 1-0, on Saturday. Her task was much tougher the next day, however, and the rookie was faced with nine shots in St. Catharines.

Abbatangelo allowed only a single goal as the Marauders hit back to earn a 1-1 draw with the Brock Badgers in women’s play.
