The Mohawk men’s soccer team opened the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association regular season with a 3-1 loss to Humber in Etobicoke on Tuesday (Sept. 10). The reigning national champion Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 half time lead.
The Mountaineers lone goal was scored by Alex Mitic, who was setup nicely by Patryk Korbut.
Mohawk head coach Richard Bennett said his side had a slow start.
“Being a ‘rookie’ team I think we may have put pressure on ourselves,” said Bennett. “We calmed down during the half and were a lot better in the second. Patryk hit the bar in the second half. We missed 2-3 other good chances to score as well. We are looking forward to Saturday’s (Sept. 14) game against Conestoga.”
The game against the Condors will be in Kitchener.
The Mountaineers home opener will be on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Redeemer Sports Complex, when they meet the Lambton Lions of Sarnia.
