ANCASTER – Zach McQuade and Drake Hart each scored twice and set up single goals, and Matt Pizzo assisted on three scoring plays to lead the Thorold Blackhawks to a 9-4 victory over the Ancaster Avalanche in Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League action Saturday night (Sept. 14) in the Morgan Firestone Arena.
The loss ended Ancaster’s two-game winning streak.
Thorold currently sits fifth in the Golden Horseshoe Conference with a record of two wins and two losses while the third place Avalanche is 2-1 after Saturday’s result.
In addition to McQuade and Hart, Thorold got a goal and an assist each from Chris Goulet and Kyle Tanev. Christian Difelice, Kevin Lavoie, and Owen Sobchak had the other Blackhawk goals.
For Ancaster, Zach Nieminen scored twice, Harrison Domagala added a goal and an assist, and Luke Zupan supplied a shorthanded goal. Christopher Klack set up two of the Avalanche scoring plays.
Next action for the Avalanche is Sunday (Sept. 15) at Welland against the Junior Canadians at 7 p.m. in the Welland Main Arena. Friday night (Sept. 20) the Avs play the Canucks in the Niagara Falls Gale Centre at 7:30 p.m. Next home action for Ancaster is against the St. Catharines Falcons on Dave Andreychuk Night, Saturday (Sept. 21) with a 7:30 p.m. start.
