Not even a heavy downpour of rain could slow down the Steel City Steelers in Central Ontario Minor Football League action this past weekend.
The Tyke team started off Saturdays (Sept. 21) doubleheader at Mohawk Sports Complex rolling over the visiting Twin Cities Purple, 60-0. The Steeler defence once again set the tone stopping the Twin Cities attack. Led by star lineman Lincoln Brason, who stuffed the middle all game long as well as recovering a fumble.
Ryder Mount and Jesse Sweet gobbled up a fumble recovery each, in addition to leading the way on offence, with Mount scoring two touchdowns, and Sweet scoring three.
Running back Anthony Moran had his best day of the year scoring two long TDs and Francesco Modica added another major for the Steelers. The win moves the Steelers record to 4-0.
The Atom Steelers were not going to be outdone by the Tykes and they romped to a 40-6 victory. They were led once again by quarterback Josh Omojafo who accounted for four TDs while Jaydon Peterson and Aivona Ibhawoh added single majors. The converts were spread around with Yohan Tshimbalanga, Cameron Sweet, and Jahiem Merrifield contributing point afters. The Steelers D-Line came up big when needed with timely stops by Jacob Breukelman, Mason Jett and Riley Mercer.
Not to be overlooked were two onside kick recoveries by Peterson and Sweet.
The Atom Steelers also move to 4-0 on the season.
