Mountaineers prep for OCAA golf finale

Golf_ball_resting_near_fairway_woodThe Mohawk men’s golf team finished in a tie for seventh place in an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association invitational golf tournament at Hunters Pointe in Welland on Monday (Sept. 23). Host for the event was Niagara College.

Mike Rizetto carded 78, one stroke ahead of Cameron Garon. Other Mountaineers scores were Jair Saenz (82), Eric Stuebing (85) and Brendan Lewis (101). Alternates’ scores included Rob Vachon (78), Kevin Gee (88) and Charlie Steele (89).

Colton Kalkanis of Georgian fired a 69 to win the individual title. However, Humber’s No. 1 team, captured the men’s team championship.

The women’s winner was Adrienne D’Alessio of Humber with an 80. Humber also took the women’s team title.

Mohawk’s lone woman, Jessica Fell, shot 131.

Golfers are preparing for the OCAA golf championships in Brantford on Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
