The Windsor Lancers brought the Marauder men’s soccer team’s lengthy winning streak to an abrupt halt on Friday night (Sept. 27). The Lancers rode a first-half goal from Derrick Amankwa to a 1-0 victory, putting an end to McMaster’s streak at six games.
The result was only the Marauders second loss of the Ontario University Athletics season, and marked the second time McMaster has been held off the scoresheet in 2013. The result left Mac with a 6-2-1 record
Amankwa scored the game’s only goal in the 34th minute, as the Lancers held the Marauders at bay in a scoreless second half to take all three points on the night. McMaster forced Windsor goalkeeper Dejo Olagbegi into action on seven occasions, but the fifth-year senior proved up to the challenge.
The Marauders will look to bounce back when they return to action – and their home field – on Sunday. They welcome their closest rivals in the OUA West standings, the Guelph Gryphons (6-1-2), to Ron Joyce Stadium for a matinee game slated to start at 3:15 p.m.
