Tie gives Mohawk share of fourth in women’s soccer

soccer_ballEven with a handful of players not available, the Mohawk women’s soccer team came up with a valuable point in their 1-1 away draw at Sheridan College in Oakville on Saturday (Sept. 28).

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association result left the Mountaineers and Bruins with identical 3-2-1 records, tied for fourth place in the Western Division.

Mohawk’s Marie-Pier Schleichkorn (Burlington) scored her second free kick goal of the season in the first half. Sheridan equalized midway through the second half on what Mountaineer co-head coach Michael Castellani said was only the second clear chance the home side had.

“We played really well today,” said Castellani. “(We) pressured the ball at all times and played a controlled game. We played a strong defensive game.”
